I purchased this 1952 Farmall Cub in Montevallo, Alabama
September, 2004. It was in pretty sad shape. (See the photo album showing
how it was restored.)
This is the best little garden tractor anyone could want. Runs smooth and quiet.
Of course, my John Deere lawn mower has more horsepower than the Cub but the Cub was never
built for speed.
Here is a little history of the cub:
- It was the smallest tractor in the Farmall line.
- It was designed for less than 40 acres.
- Depending upon attachments, the Cub could
cover 3 to 15 acres a day.
What Makes it Run
- The cub is fitted with a small 60 cubic-inch flat head
- Has a four cyclinder engine rated at 9 horsepower
- I kept the orginal 6 volt system.
- Has a 3 speed transmission accompanied by a foot-operated clutch
- A reversible, height-adjustable drawbar and universal mounting
(all attaching parts remained on the tractor)
- Most of the tractor can be disassembled and reassembled with 5/16 combination to
a 1" combination wrench.
- Attachments included plows, cultivators and planter and belly mower.
